Pattern
Optimizes everything. Removes the variables. Gets very good at being alone.
The Scene
She sits across from a grandmaster. The room is silent. She doesn't need anyone in it. The board is the only system she has ever fully trusted and it has never let her down.
The System
She came up in institutions that did not care about her. She found the one domain where the rules were fixed, where intelligence was the only currency, where she could win on pure merit without needing anyone to like her. She optimized for that domain completely.
The Cost
The optimization extends past the board. Relationships get evaluated for usefulness. Emotions get treated as variables to manage. She is exceptional at chess and very bad at being known.
The Pivot
She asks for help. Not efficiently. Not cleanly. The people she calls are not obligated to come. They come anyway. She lets them. It is the hardest move she makes in the entire series.
The Pull
You have gotten very good at not needing anyone. The skill is real. The cost is that people can't find a way in. You keep the variables managed and the door stays shut.
