Pattern

Walks into rooms where she is not taken seriously. Performs anyway. Performs better. The performance is real. So is the fact that she had to perform it.

The Scene

She arrives at Harvard in a pink bunny costume for a party that does not exist. It was a hazing. She figures that out in the parking lot. She walks in anyway. She does not go home and change. She takes notes.

The System

She grew up in a world that told her the packaging was the point. That pink was a category and categories had ceilings. She believed it long enough to let it motivate her, then stopped believing it and kept going. The pep rally energy is not a performance. It was the only register she had access to and she optimized it past everyone who underestimated it.

The Cost

She has to be twice as prepared, twice as charming, twice as unflappable. The rooms she walks into have already made their decision before she opens her mouth. She knows this. She opens her mouth anyway. Nobody sees the work behind the presentation. They see the presentation. She lets them.

The Pivot

She wins the case. Not in spite of knowing what a perm does to hair. Because of it. The expertise the room dismissed is the thing that solves it. She does not say she told them so. She doesn't need to.

The Pull

You have been underestimated by a room that had already decided before you walked in. You walked in anyway. The preparation they didn't see is the thing that got you here.
