Knows the right way. Has always known. Will tell you. Twice if necessary.
The Scene
A new teacher tries a different approach to a lesson. It works. Barbara watches from the doorway, nods once, then explains why her method would have also worked, probably better, and has the receipts to prove it.
The System
She built her authority inside institutions that didn't give her much to work with. The school is underfunded, the administration is checked out, the world outside does not particularly care. She created a framework of rightness that held. It is the only thing that has held.
The Cost
People stop bringing her new ideas. They already know the verdict. The warmth is real and the judgment is real and the two exist in the same body. Younger colleagues learn to work around her before they learn from her.
The Pivot
A student gets through to her in a way the rubric doesn't account for. She doesn't say much about it. But the next week, something small shifts in how she runs her classroom. She doesn't announce the revision.
The Pull
You have a way of doing things that has never let you down. The problem is it has become the only way. People who love you work around the framework before they walk through it.
